Starting a Journey
I had the great privilege to do a session for my long time college friend and fellow art co-conspirator. Doing a photo session for a good friend is incredibly intimidating. Of course you want all of your sessions to be perfect, but for one of your best friends, you want it to be amazing. I was so pleased with how her photos turned out, but the best reward was hearing that she had fun and felt pretty after seeing her images.
Part of why this work is meaningful to me, is because I want women to feel good about themselves, regardless of where they are in their journey.
A.P. talks about her story in her own words:
“I had put on a lot of weight and was not feeling very confident about myself. I have gained and lost a lot of weight in the past and this time, I wanted to take a different approach to my health journey. Instead of being depressed about my body, and focusing on what it should be and what it will be after I lose weight, I chose to embrace who I am now by doing a boudoir session so that I can start my health journey from a positive, confident place.”
“During my session, there was no pressure. It felt like I was just hanging out with my friend, which took away my self-consciousness and made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I was able to loosen up and have fun with my session, be playful and let my personality shine through. When I looked at my pictures I saw me, and my personality. As an artist, I am used to being behind the scenes and not the center of attention. My session took me out of my comfort zone, which was empowering.” --A.P.
